Free Reindeer Christmas ornament crochet pattern

In 2021 I made a video on how to crochet this cute reindeer on a candy cane christmas ornament. Now it is available as a free christmas crochet pattern on this website. If you need help crocheting this cute reindeer, please check the video , I explain everything in detail.
This ornament makes a great christmas gift. I have made one for my mom and one for myself, this amigurumi looks so cute in my christmas tree.

Materials:

These are the materials that I used. You can replace them with other materials. If you wish to make a larger or smaller version of this Amigurumi, you can just use a thicker or thinner yarn/crochet hook.

Body:

  • Use brown yarn
  • Rnd 1: start 6 sc in a magic ring (6)
  • Rnd 2: inc 6 times (12)
  • Rnd 3: (sc, inc in next st) repeat 6 times (18)
  • Rnd 4: (sc in next 2 st, inc in next st) repeat 6 times (24)
  • Rnd 5: (sc in next 3 st, inc in next st) repeat 6 times (30)
  • Rnd 6: (sc in next 4 st, inc in next st) repeat 6 times (36)
  • Rnd 7-8: sc in all 36 st (36)
  • Rnd 9: (sc in next 5 st, inc in next st) repeat 6 times (42)
  • Rnd 10: sc in all 42 st (42)
  • Rnd 11: (sc in next 6 st, inc in next st) repeat 6 times (48)
  • Rnd 12: sc in all 48 st (48)
  • Rnd 13: (sc in next 7 st, inc in next st) repeat 6 times (54)
  • Rnd 14-17: sc in all 54 st (54)
  • Insert 8 mm safety eyes between round 13-14 with an interspace of 11 st.

  • Rnd 18: (sc in next 7 st, dec) repeat 6 times (48)
  • Rnd 19: (sc in next 6 st, dec) repeat 6 times (42)
  • Rnd 20: (sc in next 5 st, dec) repeat 6 times (36)
  • Rnd 21: (sc in next 4 st, dec) repeat 6 times (30)

  • Stuff the head with filling.
  • Rnd 24: (sc in next st, dec) repeat 6 times (12)

  • Finish the head by taking the last strand of yarn and sewing it through the front loops of every crochet stitch that you made in the last round. Pull the yarn tight to close the hole. Now stick a needle under the hole and weave in the yarn end

Snout:

  • Use brown yarn
  • Rnd 1: start 6 sc in a magic ring (6)
  • Rnd 2: inc 6 times (12)
  • Rnd 3: (sc, inc in next st) repeat 6 times (18)
  • Rnd 4-5: sc in all 18 st (18)
  • Fasten off with a slst, leaving a long yarn tail.
  • Sew the snout onto rounds 12 – 17 of the body.

Ear 2x:

  • Use brown yarn
  • Rnd 1: start 4 sc in a magic ring (4)
  • Rnd 2: (sc, inc in next st) repeat 2 times (6)
  • Rnd 3: (sc in next 2 st, inc in next st) repeat 2 times (8)
  • Rnd 4: (sc in next 3 st, inc in next st) repeat 2 times (10)
  • Rnd 5: (sc in next 4 st, inc in next st) repeat 2 times (12)
  • Rnd 6-9: sc in all 12 st (12)
  • Fasten off with a slst, leaving a long yarn tail.
  • Fold the ears to flatten them. Then fold the bottom of the folded ears to create an ear shape (see photo below)
  • Sew the ears on the sides of the body onto rounds 10 and 11 of the body.

Antler 2x:

Antler part 1:

  • Use dark brown yarn
  • Rnd 1: start 6 sc in a magic ring (6)
  • Rnd 2-10: sc in all 6 st (6)
  • Fasten off with a slst, leaving a long yarn tail.

Antler part 2:

  • Use dark brown yarn
  • Rnd 1: start 6 sc in a magic ring (6)
  • Rnd 2-3: sc in all 6 st (6)
  • Fasten off with a slst, leaving a long yarn tail.
  • Sew Antler part 2 on round 6 of the Antler part 1.

Antler part 3:

  • Use dark brown yarn
  • Rnd 1: start 6 sc in a magic ring (6)
  • Rnd 2-4: sc in all 6 st (6)
  • Fasten off with a slst, leaving a long yarn tail.
  • Sew Antler part 3 on round 3 and 4 of the Antler part 1.
  • Sew the antlers on the sides of the body of the reindeer onto rounds 5 and 6.

Nose:

  • Use black yarn
  • Rnd 1: start 6 sc in a magic ring (6)
  • Fasten off with a slst, leaving a long yarn tail.
  • Sew the nose onto rounds 2 and 3 of the snout.

Feet 2x:

  • Use brown yarn
  • Rnd 1: start 6 sc in a magic ring (6)
  • Rnd 2: inc 6 times (12)
  • Rnd 3-4: sc in all 12 st (12)
  • Rnd 5: (sc in next st, dec) repeat 4 times (8)
  • Fasten off with a slst, leaving a long yarn tail.
  • Sew the feet on the bottom side of the body.

Tail:

  • Use brown yarn
  • Rnd 1: start 6 sc in a magic ring (6)
  • Rnd 2-3: sc in all 6 st (6)
  • Fasten off with a slst, leaving a long yarn tail.
  • Sew the tail onto rounds 17 and 18 of the body.

  • Now we are going to shape the candy cane by sewing a piece of yarn allong the candy cane (see photo’s below). The pull the end of the yarn to give the candy cane a round shape (see photo’s below or see my candy cane video).
  • If you want, you can put in a paper straw to keep the candy cane straight.
  • Rnd 74: (sc in next st, dec) repeat 6 times (12)
  • Rnd 75: dec 6 times (6)
  • Finish the candy cane by taking the last strand of yarn and sewing it through the front loops of every crochet stitch that you made in the last round. Pull the yarn tight to close the hole. Use the remaining yarn to create a loop on top of the candy cane. Then sew the remaining yarn in the candy cane.


Sew the reindeer on the candy cane.
