Brodie the Stegosaurus Amigurumi
Make your own Brodie the Stegosaurus dino with this free dinosaur crochet pattern! This quick and easy design includes a full video tutorial to guide you through each step of creating this adorable stegosaurus. If you need assistance, the video will walk you through the entire process.
Bigger yarn, bigger dinosaur:
For the small dinosaur Amigurumi, I used sport weight cotton yarn. If you want to crochet a bigger version you can use thicker yarn. I used chenille Super Bulky plush yarn for the big dino on the photo below, I love crocheting with Chenille yarn, it is so soft and fluffy. The small and big stegosaurus are both made with the same pattern, but with different yarn.

Basic Stitches Tutorial:

Materials:
These are the materials that I used. However, you can replace them with other materials of your choice. If you wish to crochet a larger or smaller version of the stegosaurus using this free dinosaur amigurumi pattern, you can simply use a thicker or thinner yarn and crochet hook. The bigger the yarn, the larger your dino will become.
Cotton Sport Weight version 9 cm / 4 inch:
– Green SMC Catania cotton color: 245
– Blue SMC Catania cotton color: 400
– Black SMC Catania cotton color: 110
– Synthetic Poly Filling
– Crochet hook size 2.5 mm
Chenille Super Bulky version 22 cm / 9 inch:
– Green Chenille yarn
– Blue Chenille yarn
– Black Chenille yarn
– Synthetic Poly Filling
– Crochet hook size 5.0 mm
Search for a similar chenille yarn you can buy near you on YARNSUB

Supplies:
– Scissors
– Tapestry needles with blunt point, nr. 16 or 17
– Pins
TIP: Are you using are using Blanket yarn? Then I recommend a 8.0 mm crochet hook.
For Bulky Velvet yarn I recommend a 3.5 mm crochet hook.
Abbreviations used in this cute crochet pattern:

Rnd: Round
st: stitch
sc: single crochet
sl st: slip stitch
dec: decrease
inc: increase

Free Dinosaur Crochet Pattern
Body:
- Use green yarn
- Rnd 1: start 6 sc in a magic ring (6)
- Rnd 2: inc 6 times (12)
- Rnd 3: sc in all 12 st (12)
- Rnd 4: (sc in next st, inc in next st) repeat 6 times (18)
- Mark the 9th stitch of round 6 with a stitch marker, so you know where the top side of the head is.
- Rnd 5-7: sc in all 18 st (18)
- Rnd 8: (sc in next st, dec) repeat 6 times (12)
- Rnd 9: sc in all 12 st (12)
- Rnd 10: (sc in next st, inc in next st) repeat 6 times (18)
- Rnd 11: (sc in next 2 st, inc in next st) repeat 6 times (24)
- Rnd 12: sc in all 24 st (24)
- Rnd 13: sc in next 9 st, (inc in next st, sc in next st) repeat 4 times, sc in next 7 st (28)
- Mark the 16th stitch of round 15 with a stitchmarker, so you know what the top side of the body is.
- Rnd 14-16: sc in all 28 st (28)
- Embroider two eyes on round 4, with 7 stitches between both eyes (photo 1-3). The two stitchmarkers you place in round 6 and 15 show you what the top side of the body is.

- Rnd 17: sc in next 9 st, (dec, sc in next st) repeat 4 times, sc in next 7 st (24)
- Rnd 18: sc in all 24 st (24)
- Rnd 19: (sc in next 2 st, dec) repeat 6 times (18)
- Rnd 20: (sc in next st, dec) repeat 6 times (12)
- Rnd 21: sc in all 12 st (12)
- Rnd 22: (sc in next 2 st, dec) repeat 3 times (9)
- Rnd 23-24: sc in all 9 st (9)
- Rnd 25: (sc in next st, dec) repeat 3 times (6)
- Rnd 26: sc in all 6 st (6)
- Finish the body by taking the last strand of yarn and sewing it through the front loops of every crochet stitch that you made in the last round. Pull the yarn tight to close the hole. Now stick a needle under the hole and weave in the yarn end.

Plate 6x:
- Use blue yarn
- Rnd 1: start 4 sc in a magic ring (4)
- Rnd 2: inc 4 times (8)
- Rnd 3: sc in all 8 st (8)
- Rnd 4: dec 4 times (4)
- Fasten off with a slst, leaving a long tail for sewing.
- Sew the plates on top of the body, two plates onto rounds 11 and 12, two plates on rounds 15 and 16 and two plates on rounds 19 and 20. (photo 4-6)

Tail Spike 2x:
- Use blue yarn
- Rnd 1: start 4 sc in a magic ring (4)
- Fasten off with a slst, leaving a long tail for sewing.
Sew one spike on round 25 and one spike on round 26.
Leg 4x:
- Use green yarn
- Rnd 1: start 6 sc in a magic ring (6)
- Rnd 2-5: sc in all 6 st (6)
- Finish the leg by taking the last strand of yarn and sewing it through the front loops of every crochet stitch that you made in the last round. Pull the yarn tight to close the hole. Now stick a needle under the hole and leave a long piece of yarn.
- Sew the frontlegs on the side of the body on rounds 12 and 13 and the hindlegs on rounds 18 and 19. (photo 7-8)
