Mini Owl Keychain Amigurumi

Crochet a very cute owl with this free owl crochet pattern. You can crochet this mini amigurumi with any yarn that you like, make sure to use the smallest crochet hook (or smaller) recommended on the label of the yarn.

Size owl that I made with sport weight cotton yarn: 5 cm / 2 inch.
Size big owl made from Chenille yarn: 11 cm / 4 inch.

Materials:
These are the materials that I used for this owl. You can replace them with other materials. If you wish to crochet a larger or smaller version of this mini owl Amigurumi keychain you can just use a thicker or thinner yarn/crochet hook. Cotton Sport Weight version 5 cm / 2 inch:
– Blue Yarn and Colors Must have: 64 or catania cotton color – 146
– Light Blue Yarn and Colors Must have: 74 or catania cotton color – 432
– Dark Pink Yarn and Colors Must have: 35 or catania cotton color – 114
– Pink Yarn and Colors Must have: 48 – Pastel Pink or catania cotton color – 222
Synthetic Poly filling
– 1 pair safety eyes: 7 mm

Chenille Super Bulky plush version 11 cm / 4 inch:
– Blue Chenille yarn
– Light Blue Chenille yarn
– Dark Pink Chenille yarn
– Pink Chenille yarn

– Scissors
Tapestry needles with blunt point, nr. 16 or 17

Crochet hook size 2.5 mm 4/0 for the cotton or 5.0 mm H for Chenille yarn

st: stitch
sc: single crochet
sl st: slip stitch
dec: decrease

Eye white 2x:

  • Use white yarn
  • Rnd 1: start 8 sc in a magic ring (8)
  • Fasten off cleanly, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Body:

First make two ears:

First Ear:

  • Use blue yarn
  • Rnd 1: start 4 sc in a magic ring (4)
  • Rnd 2: (sc in next st, inc in next st) repeat 2 times (6)
  • Rnd 3: sc in all 6 st (6)
  • Fasten off with a slst.

Second Ear:

  • Use blue yarn
  • Rnd 1: start 4 sc in a magic ring (4)
  • Rnd 2: (sc in next st, inc in next st) repeat 2 times (6)
  • Rnd 3: sc in all 6 st (6)
  • Rnd 4: sc in next 3 st, ch 4, (continue crochet in first ear, start in the first st of the last round) sc in all 6 st, sc in the 4 ch, (continue in the second ear) sc in next 3 st (20)
  • Mark the beginning of each round with a piece of yarn, so you can count the stitches in each round later. Use one long piece of yarn to do this, watch this video if you do not know how to do this: https://youtu.be/7ENEy3PrHi0
  • Rnd 5: sc in all 20 st (20)
  • Rnd 6: (inc in next st, sc in next 9st) repeat 2 times (22)
  • Rnd 7: (inc in next st, sc in next 10 st) repeat 2 times (24)
  • Rnd 8: (sc in next 3 st, inc in next st) repeat 6 times (30)
  • Rnd 9-12: sc in all 30 st (30)
  • Stick the safety eyes through the eye whites. Insert both safety eyes between rounds 8 and 9, with an interspace of 4 stitches.
  • Sew the eye whites on the head.

  • Sew the beak between the eyes on over round 10.

  • If you want you can turn the owl into a keychain by sewing two strands of folded yarn in the top and secure it in the inside of the body.
  • Rnd 13: (sc in next 3 st, dec) repeat 6 times (24)
  • Rnd 14: (sc in next 2 st, dec) repeat 6 times (18)
  • Stuff the body with fiber filling
  • Rnd 15: (sc in next st, dec) repeat 6 times (12)
  • Rnd 16: dec 6 times (6)
  • Finish the body of the owl by taking the last strand of yarn and sewing it through the front loops of every crochet stitch that you made in the last round. Pull the yarn tight to close the hole. Now stick a needle under the hole and weave in the yarn end.

Wing 2x:

  • Use light blue yarn
  • Rnd 1: start 6 sc in a magic ring (6)
  • Rnd 2: inc 2 times, hdc + dc + hdc in next st, inc 3 times (13)
  • Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.
  • Sew the wings on the side of the body. The wings are sewed below round 9 with an interspace of 10 stitches. Sew 4 small stripes between rounds 11 and 12. Sew 3 small stripes between rounds 12 and 13. Hide the remaining yarn under the wings.

Now your owl is done!
