Create Poco the Parrot Amigurumi with this free parrot crochet pattern. This cute colorful parrot is an easy beginner friendly crochet pattern. I love designing birds, animals are a big inspiration for me. There is always a cute animal to create a new Amigurumi from.
Poco the Parrot Amigurumi
“With his beautful red wings Poco flies through the forest looking for delicious fruits to eat and share with his parrot friends. If you are lucky he might bring you a delicious berry, Poco does not mind sharing his found foods.”
To create him I used sport weight cotton yarn, but you can use any yarn you like to crochet this cute parrot. All the materials that you need are listed below. This is a big Amigurumi, it is 18 cm / 7 inch when made with cotton yarn and a 2.5 mm crochet hook.

Cotton Sport Weight version 18 cm / 7 inch:
– Red Yarn and Colors Must Have cotton color: 031

TIP: Are you using are using Blanket yarn? Then I recommend a 8.0 mm crochet hook.
For Super Bulky Chenille yarn I recommend a 5 mm crochet hook, for bulky velvet yarn a 3.5 mm crochet hook.

- Sew the beak between rounds 13 and 27 of the head, centered between the stitches you marked earlier (pictures 1-2). You might find it easier to remove the stuffing and stuff the beak again if you’ve sewn around 2/3 of the piece. Add more fiberfill just before closing the seam (picture 3).
- Insert the safety eyes through the center of the crochet eyes and the head of the parrot Amigurumi. Close the washers inside the head and sew on the crochet eyes (picture 5).
- Stuff the head with fiberfill.

Tail:
We start by making 1 long and 2 short tail feathers, which we’ll later join together to make the tail.
Long tail feather:
- Start with blue yarn
- Rnd 1: start 6 sc in a magic ring (6)
- Rnd 2: inc in all 6 st (12)
- Rnd 3 – 10: sc in all 12 st (12)
- Note: If your piece turns inwards, make sure to turn the right side out.
- Rnd 11: (sc in next st, dec) repeat 4 times (8)
- Rnd 12: sc in all 8 st (8)
- Change to red yarn.
- Rnd 13: sc in all 8 st (8)
- Slst in next st. The long tail feather doesn’t need to be stuffed. Fasten off. Tuck the yarn tail in the tail feather.
Short tail feather 2x:
- Start with blue yarn
- Rnd 1: start 6 sc in a magic ring (6)

- Rnd 3 – 5: sc in all 8 st (8)

- Change to red yarn.

- Slst in next st. The short tail feathers don’t need to be stuffed. Fasten off on the first short feather. Tuck the yarn tail in the tail feather.
- Don’t fasten off on the second short feather. In the next round, we’ll join the feathers together to make the tail.
Joining the feathers
- In the next round we’ll join the feathers by crocheting a single round around all feather pieces. You jump from one feather to the next by inserting your hook in a stitch of the next piece and pulling up a loop.
- Rnd 9: sc in all 20 st (20)
- Use the leftover yarn tails of the tail feathers to sew the gaps between the tail feathers closed.
- Rnd 10: (sc in next 4 st, inc in next st) repeat 4 times (24)
- Rnd 11 – 12: sc in all 24 st [24] Slst in next st. The tail doesn’t need to be stuffed. Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing. Sew the tail to the back of the body, between rounds 41 and 49.
Foot 2x:
We start by making 3 toes, which we’ll later join together to make the foot of this parrot Amigurumi.
Toe 3x:
- Use yellow yarn
- Rnd 1: start 6 sc in a magic ring (6)
- Rnd 2: (sc in next 2 st, inc in next st) repeat 2 times (8)
- Rnd 3 – 4: sc in all 8 st (8)
Joining the toes
- In the next round we’ll join the toes by crocheting a single round around all pieces. You jump from one toe to the next by inserting your hook in a stitch of the next piece and pulling up a loop.
- Rnd 5: sc in the next 4 st on the third toe, sc in next 4 st on the second toe (picture 13), sc in next 8 st on the first toe (picture 14), sc in next 4 st on the second toe, sc in next 4 st on the third toe [24] (picture 15)
- Rnd 6: (sc in next 2 st, dec) repeat 6 times (18)
- Rnd 7: sc in all 18 st (18)

- Slst in next st. Stuff the feet with fiberfill. Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing. Sew the feet to the bottom front of the body, on rounds 48-52.
